Swiss Reformed representatives elected to WCC bodies

The Protestant Church in Switzerland (PCS) is pleased with the election of four Swiss representatives to bodies of the World Council of Churches (WCC) in the year 2023. Emma van Dorp, Sarah Bach, Reinhold Bernhardt, and Christoph Sigrist will contribute to important commissions and reference groups through the next WCC Assembly in 2030.

WCC invites all member churches to observe a day of prayer

World Council of Churches WCC acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca invites all member churches to observe a global prayer day on 14 May. The joint initiative with the members of the Higher Committee of Human Fraternity, of which the WCC is part, is calling for “prayer and supplication” to God for an end to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Protestant Church in Switzerland, WCC commemorate work of Pastor Adolf Keller

The Council of the Protestant Church in Switzerland and the Permanent Committee on Consensus and Cooperation of the World Council of Churches (WCC) will jointly honor the visionary work of Pastor Adolf Keller (1872-1963) at a colloquium. A hundred years ago, Keller, a pioneer of the ecumenical movement, was a trailblazer for both the Federation of Swiss Protestant Churches and the WCC.

Leader of Serbian Church meets President of the Federation of Swiss Protestant Churches

On 3 September 2018, Patriarch Irinej of the Serbian Orthodox Church visited Federation of Swiss Protestant Churches FSPC President Gottfried Locher in Bern. The topics they discussed included the situation of the Serbian Church in Switzerland and the mutual recognition of baptisms.

The Council Presidium of the Federation of Swiss Protestant Churches met with Pope Francis today. In the course of the meeting, Council President Gottfried Locher issued an invitation for an ecumenical dialogue on the occasion of the Zwingli Jubilee in 2019.

Conference “In Christ – Towards the Centre Together”

From June 20 to 22, 2018, the University of Fribourg will host its fifth conference on theological and societal renewal under the heading of “In Christ – Towards the Centre Together.” The Study Centre for Faith and Society has invited prominent academic and religious leaders to consider the question of how the existence of Christ can con-tribute to a deepened sense of community among the churches and denominations.
