Confirmation

The confirmation of baptism

Through confirmation (Lat. confirmare = to fasten, confirm), young women and men profess the Christian faith. By doing so, they affirm their membership in the church of Jesus Christ which began with baptism.

The blessing service marks the transition to religious maturity. Those who have been confirmed can become godparents and receive the right to vote and elect in their parish. At the same time, confirmation marks the conclusion of church instruction.
