The Conference of European Churches CEC
Committed to a peaceful Europe
The Protestant Church in Switzerland (PCS) is a founding member of the Conference of European Churches (CEC). As a regional body of the World Council of Churches (WCC), CEC plays an important role in the areas of theological dialogue and ethical discussion. The General Secretariat of the Conference of European Churches is in Brussels. The Reformed Church President Rev. Christian Krieger from Alsace-Lorraine is President of the CEC until 2023.
At the General Assembly in Budapest in 2013, a new constitution was adopted that simplified structures and clarified competencies. Here the PCS led the process of integrating the Church and Society Commission into the CEC.
After this, the last General Assembly in 2018 in Novi Sad (Serbia) was devoted to the subject of ‘Witness’. The intention was to draw attention to the fact that Christian existence and the presence of churches in the public space in Europe are no longer as visible as they were earlier. The churches are called on to leave their comfort zones. They should become visible once again through their actions.
