Swiss Reformed representatives elected to WCC bodies

The Protestant Church in Switzerland (PCS) is pleased with the election of four Swiss representatives to bodies of the World Council of Churches (WCC) in the year 2023. Emma van Dorp, Sarah Bach, Reinhold Bernhardt, and Christoph Sigrist will contribute to important commissions and reference groups through the next WCC Assembly in 2030.

50 years following the founding of the Leuenberg Church Community, the common path to unity lives on in reconciled diversity. But what contributions can the members of the Communion of Protestant Churches in Europe (CPCE) make to meet the challenges we face today? These questions formed the focus of discussions at a recent conference in Bern, Switzerland.

The Council of the PCS Issues Statement on the Banking Crisis

The recent banking crisis surrounding Credit Suisse is a matter of concern not only for the financial world, but also for politicians and civil society. The Council of the Protestant Church in Switzerland takes a stance on ten relevant questions relating to the banking crisis. In addition to the question of responsibility and the issue of justice, which are now being discussed everywhere, it also takes up the theological-spiritual dimension of the problem.

The new PCS Council welcomed visitors from Syria and Romania to its constituent session

The Council of the Protestant Church in Switzerland (PCS) has elected its Vice Presidents and assigned new council members to different departments. In addition to its first orders of business, the Council placed its focus on church cooperation at geopolitical hotspots, welcoming Rev. Mathilde Sabbagh from Syria and Rev. József Kiss from Romania.

Rebecca Mutumosi Mfutila receives the International Sylvia-Michel-Prize of 2022

Since 2009, the International Sylvia-Michel-Prize has supported people and projects that promote women’s leadership in Reformed churches throughout the world. In 2022, the prize will go to a pioneering woman from the Democratic Republic of Congo – Rebecca Mutumosi Mfutila. The prize was awarded for the first time at a synod of the Protestant Church in Switzerland (PCS).

Die Vollversammlung endet mit Freude und dem Willen zur Einheit: Was tragen wir mit nach Hause?

An ihrem letzten Tag schlug die Vollversammlung versöhnlichere Töne an als in den heissen Diskussionen am Vortag. Mit etwas Wehmut, viel Freude und vollen Köpfen treten alle nun die Heimreise an. Den Abschluss bildete ein Gottesdienst mit der deutlichen Hoffnung, dass Veränderung möglich ist.

Der Tag der hohen Erwartungen und klaren Worte

Wie können die Konfessionen der Welt sich auf eine Einheit hinbewegen und in der Welt nachhaltige Veränderung anstossen. Darum drehte sich der vorletzte Tag der Vollversammlung. In zwei langen Business Plenaries diskutierten die Delegierten über zentrale Statements und Erklärungen. Ein Tag der vielen Stimmen und klaren Worten.

Austausch, Geist und Inhalt – Was die Teilnehmenden der Vollversammlung schätzen

Langsam neigt sich die Vollversammlung des ÖRK dem Ende zu, erste persönliche Bilanzen drängen sich auf. Ist das wichtigste ökumenische Treffen der Welt seinem Anspruch gerecht geworden? Wer Dialoge zwischen Morning Prayer, Mittagessen und in der Networking Zone belauscht, schnappt immer wieder drei Errungenschaften der Vollversammlung auf, die die Teilnehmenden schätzen.

Gesprächsrunde an der Vollversammlung in Karlsruhe mit Fokus auf die Pazifische Region welche besonders stark von der Klimakrise betroffen sind.

Der zweite Teil des Marathons Vollversammlung beginnt: Aktion statt nur Artikulation

Tag sechs der Vollversammlung in Karlsruhe läuft. Während sich bei den einen Spuren einer langen Veranstaltung zeigen, sind andere Teilnehmende voller Tatendrang. Und der wird auch gebraucht. Heute fand eine weitere eindrückliche thematische Plenarsitzung zum Thema Klimakrise verbunden mit der ökologischen Krise statt.

Als Tag für die Herausforderungen der Kirche(n) angesagt, hat das Thema Ukraine die Vollversammlung am Freitag dominiert. Bereits im thematic plenary am Morgen war spürbar, dass der Fokus auf dem Krieg im Osten Europas liegt.
